What’s Robbing You?

Trajectory Truth

What’s Your Trajectory?

Trajectory—it’s an interesting word, isn’t it? You know, it's one of the words you can't say "5 times fast."

But who cares let's just say it one time and keep reading.

It’s all about the path you’re on and where it’s leading you. But here’s the thing: if you want to know where you’re going to be in ten years, I don’t need a crystal ball. Just tell me about your "today."

Tell me what you did today. What were your thoughts today? How many times did you smile? How many times did you help someone? Where did you spend your money? Share with me the details of your today, and I can tell you exactly where you’re headed in the next decade.

The Power of Today’s Actions

A practice I do with some of my clients early on in their aftercare program is taking a close look at their daily actions. It’s simple but powerful. By taking a look at what you do each day—your habits, your mindset, your interactions—together, we can determine where those actions will lead you in the long run. Because those small, seemingly insignificant choices you make today? They’re shaping the future you.

But here’s a little secret: actions taken in the positive, compounded day after day, will always exceed your hopes and dreams for where you want to be in ten years.

It’s exactly like money. Think about it—money invested today, compounded over time, is a marvel to see. It’s almost unbelievable what a little money can grow into over the years. That car payment you’re making this month instead of investing????? It could be robbing you of becoming a millionaire by the time you retire.

What’s Robbing You?

Now, let’s apply that to your life. What are you not doing in your daily actions and disciplines that’s robbing you of becoming a millionaire in your relationships, your finances, your fitness, your passions, your hope?

What daily choices are holding you back from the future you truly want?

I have clients who’ve come to me with the sentiment that they’ve lost so many years. It’s like an older person who hasn’t invested in retirement. Should they do nothing because it’s too late and they “wasted” so much time? Should they just say "fuck it" and work till they die?

No, no, no! A few tweaks to their lifestyle and daily purchases can mean they’re ready for retirement.

This is even more critical for those in addiction recovery. Your daily actions, your daily disciplines, are the foundation of your future. Every choice you make today is either building up or tearing down the life you’re working toward. It’s that simple, and it’s that powerful.

Think about it: every time you skip a workout, choose to isolate instead of reaching out, or indulge in negative self-talk, you’re setting your trajectory just a little bit off course. And over time, that slight deviation can take you far away from where you want to be.

Setting Your Course

So, let’s look at it—daily. Let’s examine those habits, those routines, those small decisions you make without even thinking. Because the trajectory you set today is the path that will lead you to who you’ll become in ten years.

Don’t underestimate the power of today’s actions. They compound over time, just like money , and the results can be extraordinary. Whether it’s in your relationships, your finances, your health, or your sense of purpose, the choices you make today are the seeds of your future.

As the legendary Zig Ziglar once said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. The trajectory you’re on isn’t fixed. It can change, but that change starts with the decisions you make today.

What’s Your Trajectory?

So, what’s your trajectory? Let’s make sure it’s one that leads you to the life you truly want to live. Start by asking yourself, “What am I doing today that’s either moving me closer to or further from my goals?” Because in the end, today’s actions are tomorrow’s reality.

Take a hard look at your daily choices. Ask someone else to look at them as well. Are they helping or hurting you? Are they paving the way to the future you envision, or are they robbing you of the life you deserve? It’s time to take control, set your course, and start building the future you want—one positive action at a time.
