Holding Doors
Holding Doors Recovery

You don't need to hit rock bottom to know something has to change.

Maybe you're managing it. Maybe you're past managing it. Maybe you love someone who is. Whatever brought you here, this is where the real work starts. You set the goal. Drink less, stop completely, or help someone you love. We meet you where you are.

Built by Nate Herlean. Former Las Vegas Metro officer, decade inside the treatment industry, author of Anchor of Support.

Your story is not the thing you carry. It's the thing that sets you free.

Story to Strength is how we help you put your life on paper. A real, professionally produced book. In your voice. About your actual life. The act of writing it is where the change happens.

Story to Strength hardcover book with an open dedication page

There's a reason this works that has nothing to do with publishing. When you tell your story in a structured way, your brain rebuilds the part of your identity that addiction fractured. Research on recovery communities shows it consistently. People who put their story into a coherent narrative carry less shame, hold more agency, and stay in their recovery longer than people who don't. This is not a soft idea. It is documented. It is the same reason teaching something locks it into you in a way that learning it never did. Writing a book about your life is the highest-stakes version of teaching it. The book is the by-product. The change is what you actually walk away with.

I never planned to write books for other people. I started writing my own because I didn't know what else to do with everything I was carrying. The act of putting it on paper changed me in ways I'm still unpacking. Now I do it with other people, because I've watched what happens when someone finally sees their story in their hands. The weight stops being theirs alone. Something heavy turns into something useful.

How It Works
  • You answer 52 guided questions by voice or typing. Your pace.
  • Attach up to 10 photos for your book (optional)

  • We do the rest all the way to publication
  • You receive two professionally produced books between 150 and 250 pages
A Pause

Every book starts with a dedication.

Before you decide whether to do this, do one thing. Type a name into the box below. The person you'd write this for. The one whose name on a page would mean something. You'll see what I mean in about 10 seconds.

This is built with you, not generated for you. This is your book.

Meet Nate

You don't need another expert. You need someone who gets it.

I spent more than a decade as a Las Vegas Metro cop responding to people on their worst day. Crisis negotiations. Mental health calls. Watching addiction tear through families from the front row. I was trained to handle everyone else's crisis. Until I had to face my own.

That part didn't break me. It built everything I do now.

Coaching

You don't have to do this alone.

Coaching here is built around one idea. Build a life so full that the old one loses its grip. We work on five things together. Family. Fitness. Finance. Future. Hope. Three different doors into the work. Same destination.

Single Session

One conversation. Real work.

$222

One session, ninety minutes, built around whatever's loudest in your life right now. You leave with a clear next step and a follow-up call so the work doesn't stall.

Ambitious Recovery Package

$1,050

Seven sessions. Your pace. This is where the deep work happens. We build the system across all five pillars and run it on whatever keeps pulling you back.

Micro Sessions

Direct access when life gets loud.

$197/mo

The wedding. The big meeting. The breakup at 9pm on a Wednesday. Concierge access to me by phone or text when something hits. Limited capacity.

Start with a free 15-minute call. We'll figure out the right fit together.

Who Else I Help

Two more rooms I'm built for.

Most of this site is for the person quietly tired of their own drinking. But I spent a decade in the industry. There are two other rooms I keep getting pulled into for good reason. If you're in either one, this part is for you.

For Families & Loved Ones

Your son. Your husband. Your sister. The phone rang and you don't know what to do next.

I help families place loved ones in the right treatment center. Free of charge. I've walked through close to 100 of these places. I know who is real and who is selling. Call me before you call anyone else.

For Treatment Centers

Two numbers decide whether your facility grows: new admissions and length of stay.

Everything else is downstream of those two. I've spent a decade learning exactly how both get built. If either one is underperforming, that's my lane.

Nate's Thoughts

The stuff I'd tell you over coffee.

Not a blog. Not corporate speak. Not motivational poster quotes. This is where I write what I'm actually thinking. I don't gatekeep. If something I know can help you right now, I'd rather just give it to you here than make you pay for it.
